Creating a Better World . . .
One Shih Tzu at a Time
Reputable breeder serving New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland & Delaware
Welcome
At Jersey Pups we assure quality, not quantity, in the puppies we produce. Our dogs and puppies are family raised in a clean, healthy environment and are "pre-spoiled" before being sold. They are well socialized with all animals on our small farm.
The best part of what we do is adding joy to the heart and big smiles on the faces of our new puppy families. We love to see pictures and hear stories about our girls and boys in their new homes.

About the Breeder
My name is Amy. I got my first Shih Tzu when I was just a young teen. His name was Sammy and I can remember him like it was yesterday. Sammy was very protective of me even though he was only 10 pounds. My love of Shih Tzus grew over the years. As I became more knowledgeable, I seriously started to consider becoming a professional breeder of Shih Tzus. My passion turned into a full time job after we purchased a 12 acre farm in Millville, NJ; also growing chickens, ducks and horses.
I am proud to say that my puppies are well-socialized, which is extremely important during this stage of growth. In addition to being around all the animals, they are raised alongside my two small grandchildren, two nephews, as well as, teenagers. It’s always a full house.
I’ve helped many happy families throughout the last five years adopt Shih Tzus, with numerous references available upon request. Thank you for your interest in my puppies, and I look forward to uniting you with your forever Shih Tzu. They are truly special and I love them with every ounce of my heart. — Amy
About the Shih Tzu Breed
THE BREED:
Shih Tzu are renowned for their perky, happy temperaments. They are lively and friendly. Shih Tzu tend to get along well with people of all ages and with other dogs as well as other pets of different species.
As the quintessential lap dog, Shih Tzu are also good with elderly. In fact, many moons ago Shih Tzus were bred for a Tibetan royalty to keep their feet warm at night in bed.
THE NAME:
The Mandarin phrase “Shih Tzu” translates to “little lion.” The Shih Tzu was likely given this name because of its association with the Tibetan Buddhist God of Learning, who, according to legend, traveled with a small lion dog that could transform into a full-sized lion.
Origin: Tibet, China.
Size: Small; typically weighing 9 to 16 pounds (4 to 7 kilograms).
Breed Group: Toy Group.
Lifespan: 10 to 16 years.
Coat: Long, flowing double coat that requires regular grooming to prevent matting.
Temperament: Friendly, affectionate, and good with families and other pets.
Exercise Needs: Moderate; daily walks and playtime are sufficient to keep them healthy.
Training: Intelligent but can be stubborn. Consistent, positive reinforcement-based training works best.
Grooming: High maintenance due to their long coat; regular brushing, bathing, and occasional trimming are necessary.
